Over £180,000 secured to deliver primary school sport in Liverpool
Liverpool School Sports Partnership (LSSP) has secured substantial grant funding for the 2026/27 academic year. This will ensure all primary school children in Liverpool have the opportunity to benefit from high-quality sport and physical activity.
Support from the Steve Morgan Foundation
For a second year running, the not-for-profit organisation has received a generous grant award from the Steve Morgan Foundation.
The Steve Morgan Foundation is a leading UK charitable foundation that works with not-for-profit organisations across Liverpool, North Wales and Cheshire (west of the M6) to tackle the root causes of social disadvantage. It has awarded LSSP £150,000 so it can continue its ongoing work of ensuring school sport is accessible for all.
This brings the total awarded to LSSP by the Steve Morgan Foundation to £358,000. 100 per cent of the funding awarded is passed directly on to affiliated primary schools to subsidise their membership packages.

“LSSP plays an important role in ensuring young people can access high-quality sport and physical activity opportunities, helping them to stay healthy, build resilience and develop skills for the future. We look forward to seeing the impact this continued investment will have for pupils, schools and communities across the city.”
The importance of the grant funding
Following the announcement in the summer that the primary PE and sport premium will be ending, schools this year have received just one interim payment this term while the government transitions to its new model.
LSSP’s team has worked tirelessly to secure funding so schools and their students can still benefit from specialist sports provision. They can also access a rich programme of competitions and festivals, targeted inclusion, wellbeing work and a collaborative network.
Headteacher of Dovedale Primary School in South Liverpool, Mr Nik Smith, commented:
“I’m sure I speak on behalf of all Liverpool headteachers when I say how grateful we are to Adella and Jimmy for securing this funding and ensuring primary schools like ours can continue to offer our pupils the very best sporting opportunities.
“We see first-hand the positive difference that LSSP makes to our pupils, from helping them discover their love of sport and developing confidence to creating memories that will last long after they leave primary school.”
Support from KIND
Last year, LSSP was also awarded a three-year grant totalling £114,000 from KIND. KIND works with disadvantaged families and children across Merseyside to improve confidence, education, health and overall life experiences.
This year’s £38,000 instalment from KIND will continue to support LSSP’s delivery of its ‘Happy, Healthy, Active’ programme. Created in conjunction with North West Cancer Research, the programme provides Key Stage 2 pupils with the knowledge and insight to make healthy life choices relating to physical activity levels and positive behaviours.
